Tourism Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council

Tourism training and education

STEC works with tourism operators, managers, employees, and educators/consultants across the province. Our mandate is to develop a professional tourism workforce in Saskatchewan.

Industry Driven

STEC is industry driven. Since 1990, we have worked with literally thousands of industry professionals in every sector, front line staff to managers and owners. In 1996, STEC merged with the Saskatchewan Tourism Authority and the Tourism Industry Association of Saskatchewan (TISASK) to create Tourism Saskatchewan.

STEC is non-government and industry-driven. We receive some funding from government, but it is the tourism industry that determines the programs and services we offer. STEC promotes, coordinates and evaluates industry managed standards, certification, career awareness and training in the five tourism industries:

- Accommodation
- Food and Beverage
- Recreation & Entertainment
- Transportation
- Travel Services

Thanks to the ongoing involvement of the tourism industry - and that includes tourism businesses, provincial associations, education/training providers and government - STEC has grown into one of the most active, full service tourism education councils in Canada.

Regional Leader

STEC is a founding member of the Tourism Standards Consortium (TSC), a partnership of the tourism human resource councils in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Yukon, as well as provincial/territorial governments and federal government. The TSC was formed in 1991 to develop standards and certification that were recognized throughout Western Canada.

National Representation

STEC is on the Board of the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), a national network of tourism human resource councils that work together to establish, implement and deliver national occupational standards, training and professional certification. Nationally recognized programs have been developed for over 30 tourism occupations. STEC delivers CTHRC-sponsored programs and products in Saskatchewan.
