Saskatchewan has been enjoying some unseasonably warm weather this winter, so if you are searching for a snowbound getaway, head north. Our travel bloggers found the perfect winter getaway destination during their last road trip. Meadow Lake Provincial Park is an outdoor adventure mecca. The park offers activities like ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skating and more!
With approximately 1,600-sq. km of breathtaking landscape to explore, you can be as busy and active or as relaxed as you wish. The park, located 195 km north of North Battleford, has numerous snowmobile trails suitable for novice, intermediate and expert snowmobilers. Meadow Lake Provincial Park is also home to groomed cross-country ski trails located along Greig Lake.
As you drive through the park, you will find many ice fishing huts dotting lakes such as Waterhen. Winter recreation does not stop at ice fishing – pack your skates and take a spin on the ice. There is nothing quite like skating in Mother Nature’s backyard.
Did you know that the park offers winter camping, too? If you are feeling adventurous, you can even snag a spot along the Boreal Trail! Remember to check in with park staff before venturing out for an overnight stay. If you enjoy indoor comfort and are not keen on roughing it, consider Waters Edge Eco Lodge, which just opened along Greig Lake this past summer. An all-season lakeside lodge nestled in the boreal forest, Waters Edge Eco Lodge offers a touch of luxury in the wilderness. – It is perfect for a romantic getaway, a weekend with friends or a family vacation.
