A canoeist's paradise, the northern hamlet of Missinipe is situated in Walker Bay, the westernmost arm of Otter Lake, one of the Churchill River's medium-sized, slower and deeper lakes. The community, 80km NE of La Ronge off Hwy 102, derived its name from the Cree name for the Churchill River, 'mahttawi-sipiy' which means, ' difficult river'.
