Part of the Saskatchewan Birding Trail, the Leader loop provides birdwatchers and photographers with clear directions and opportunities to view over 210 species. The South Saskatchewan River near Leader provides habitat for several rare species of birds that frequent the river valley. The riparian woodlands containing cottonwood stands, are the largest of their kind in Saskatchewan, and are home to the Pileated Woodpecker, Golden Eagle and Great Blue Heron.
