From the Football Field to the Country

Our travel bloggers decided to take Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Tearrius George and Brendon LaBatte on a little staycation during their bye week. Lake Diefenbaker Destination Area was the perfect place to head in order to try out some horseback riding and fishing.

The first stop was at La Reata Ranch; located just 2 hours SW of Saskatoon. Here they went horseback riding along Lake Diefenbaker, learned how to rope and got a little competitive during some pool matches in the local saloon. George Gaber, owner of La Reata Ranch, was a great and enthusiastic host whose character is definitely part of the main attraction at the ranch. These Riders do amazing things on the football field, but how do they manage as horsemen? Or should we say, how did the horses manage with 6’4” approx. 300 lbs men on their backs? Next it was off to Hitchcock Bay aka Rider Nation. This small resort village welcomed our new road trip friends with open arms as “Green is the Colour” blasted as they escorted us to the marina. The fish weren’t as active as we had hoped they would be, but Tearrius still managed to catch a few with the help of Ross, owner of Lake Diefenbaker Fishing Charters. The afternoon was capped off with a delicious fish fry and a visit with the locals.
