Wounded Warriors Weekend
The second Wounded Warriors Weekend will be held in Nipawin August 2 – 5 this year. This one of a kind event garners national and international attention and brings critical attention to the oft-forgotten sufferers of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Founder Blake Emmons’ initial idea of bringing a few injured soldiers to northeast Saskatchewan for fishing and camaraderie grew into a full-scale five-day event last year that hosted a group of 112 Canadian and American soldiers along with caregivers, a large number of entertainers, volunteers and other guests. The primary motivation of Emmons, an entertainer and Vietnam War veteran, was to create a positive, healing, and unforgettable experience for all participants. This year the event will bring in 120 veterans from Canada, the United States, Australia and the UK. Highlighting the beautiful lakes, great golfing, superb fishing, excellent entertainment and unmatched hospitality of the area, Emmons' vision is sure to be realized again in 2013.
