The Saskatchewan Roughriders begin defense of their 2007 Grey Cup Championship with their first game of the 2008 regular season, Saturday, June 28 vs. the Edmonton Eskimos at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

Question:

Who is the longest-serving team member of the current Green & White squad?

a) Scott Shultz
b) Eddie Davis
c) Gainer the Gopher
d) Gene Makowsky

Answer:

The gopher wins by a long shot. The pride of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, defensive lineman Scott Shultz, is entering his 8th season, as is defensive back Eddie Davis. Offensive lineman Gene Makowsky is the longest-serving human Roughrider, going into his 14th season this year.

Gainer the GopherMascot Gainer the Gopher first led the cheers at Taylor Field way back in 1977, which makes 2008 his 32nd season. The ageless wonder still whips Rider supporters into a frenzy on game day, and now sports number 13 on his jersey, in tribute to the fans whose boisterous support gives the home team such an advantage that the Roughriders have dubbed the crowd “The 13th Man”.
