MacKenzie Art Gallery's Big Year
In celebration of 60 years, the exhibition How We Filled the Vault: Sixty Years of Collecting is now on display and the Opening Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 7:30pm. This exhibit tells the story of the Permanent Collection as it has evolved since the creation of the gallery in 1953. Featuring 250 works from a collection of over 4,000, the exhibition offers an unparalleled opportunity to view the depth of the Collection. The exhibition runs until September 1, 2013.
Visitors to the Gallery can also take a trip down to the MacKenzie Vault during this summer’s Free Saturday Public Tours.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers. 50 years ago a group of women began the Travelling Art Program which still exists today, bringing art into Grade 5 classrooms throughout Regina. The Travelling Art Program eventually turned into the MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers; this group is an important part of the Gallery, helping out in all areas, such as the Gallery Shop, Library, and with special events such as exhibition openings, Bazaart and Art in Bloom.
The recent recipient of Event of the Year (Budget under $20,000) at the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence, the 40th annual Bazaart will take place on Saturday, June 15 from 10 am - 5 pm. This year’s event will feature over 130 Canadian artisans, local food vendors, and special 40th anniversary celebrations. Admission is $5 and children 12 and under are free.
