How did Old Wives Lake get its name?
a) A Ukrainian Legend
b) A First Nations / Métis Legend. The name, Old Wives Lake, was given to this lake based on an account given by Métis guides traveling with the North West Mounted Police in 1874. They spoke of a famous confrontation between the Cree and Blackfoot First Nations near Old Wives Lake in approximately 1840. Click here to read the entire story.
