The Dog Sled Adventure Trip
$ 1800 cdnAvailable from 15-Dec-2013 to 15-Mar-2014 6 Day / 5 Night package
Are you looking for a true wilderness experience? Have you always wondered what it would be like to run your own dog team? This trip will offer you the opportunity of a real hands-on experience. With a fully loaded sled you will head out into the vast wilderness of Northern Saskatchewan. Experienced guides will accompany you across frozen lakes and through the snow covered boreal forest. This trip will give you the opportunity to understand the extraordinariness of the four legged athlete and the heart of the sled dog. You will quickly bond with the dogs that will be your loyal trail companions. In the evenings you will help your guides to set up camp, before you get treated to a well deserved hot meal. Sitting by the campfire your guides will answer your questions about sled dogs, the fur trade and Northern Saskatchewan.
Over breakfast we will go over the maps and upcoming trip. After breakfast you will meet your team, and try out your sled. We finish last trip preparations and pack the sleds. After lunch the adventure begins. We will travel 3-4hrs on open lakes and easy trails, passing the small Cree community of Sucker River.
Day 2 to 5:
Each day we will start the morning with hot cereal and tea and by looking after our dogs. After breaking camp, we will travel 20 to 25 miles per day, depending on snow conditions, tea breaks and rest stops for the dogs. The trails will lead us through the boreal forest, and across frozen lakes and rivers. We will pass other native communities and the historic site of Stanley Mission Church. The trails become gradually more challenging. Before dark we will set up our snowtrekker™ tent, cut firewood and cook for us and the dogs. Most nights we will have time for a bonfire or to enjoy the evening sky.
Arrival back at the home of Paws’n’Paddles Wilderness Tours with some time to relax and recall our adventures or a quick visit to “Robertson’s Trading Post”.
