A Taste of Bannock and Teepee Teachings

Maple Creek

Cypress Hills

South

May 24, 2018 to Sep 6, 2018

Located on the grounds of Grotto Gardens Country Market in Maple Creek, your bannock making, authentic indigenous experience will take place alongside a teepee that was constructed and raised by members of the Nekaneet First Nation. The Nekaneet are a Cree-speaking nation, whose history pre-dates European settlement in the Cypress Hills. Sit and learn to make this indigenous staple from a local Nekaneet elder, and while your bannock roasts on a stick over an open fire, listen to the stories from a time before the Grotto. Bannock making and teepee teachings are held every Thursday in the large red barn.
