Three Days in the Waskesiu and Area Wilderness RegionYou might forget exactly where you are when surrounded by the majestic boreal forest. But don’t worry, you’re still in Saskatchewan – scout’s honour! The Waskesiu and Area Wilderness Region is a four season destination where the prairie meets the forest. If you are searching for the perfect winter getaway with fun-filled outdoor activities, then look no further. With a diverse range of outdoor experiences, there is no wonder why the area is said to be the destination “where adventure comes naturally.”
Morning/Afternoon - Start your trip off with a morning of snowboarding and skiing at Ski Timber Ridge, located near Big River. The ski hill offers six runs as well as ski and snowboard rentals. If you're a beginner, instructors are on site and a training session can be arranged. After a day on the slopes, make your way over to the Village of Christopher Lake. Here you will find the Yellow Fender Coffee House and Eatery, a perfect place grab a bite to eat. They are the only coffee house in the Lakeland area that offers authentic espresso-based beverages using freshly ground beans before each press.
Evening – Try a unique twist on winter camping and go glamping instead. If you have always wanted to try winter camping, but aren’t quite ready to brave the cold outdoors, then give Flora Bora Forest Lodging a call and nestle into a yurt for the night. Each yurt is uniquely decorated and offers a bit of luxury in a forest paradise.
Morning/Afternoon - Explore the boreal forest by dogsled with Sundogs Excursions. Spend half of your day on an unforgettable mushing adventure. You will definitely have a seat with a view, so bundle up and get ready for some fun! **No previous mushing experience is required.**
Evening - Find out what all the hype is about Saskatchewan’s living skies. Take a walk along Waskesiu Lake and unwind as you watch the sun set. Stay at the Hawood Inn for the night and take a soothing dip in the hot tub before you head to bed.
Morning – Grab a hot lakeside breakfast at the Hawood Inn's restaurant before heading outside. Groomed trails for cross-country skiing can be found throughout Prince Albert National Park. If getting off of the beaten path is more your style, then strap on some snowshoes and see what the forest has to offer.
Afternoon – Pining for more of that crisp, fresh winter air? Lace up your skates! Elk Ridge Resort offers numerous outdoor activities on site. If skating isn’t your thing, try going tubing or tobogganing down the gentle slopes.
Evening – Take relaxation to a whole new level at Salacia Spa. They have it all: massages, body wraps, pedicures and more.
