Veregin

Located 13 km west of Kamsack on Hwy 5, the community of Veregin is home to the National Doukhobor Heritage Village. In the late 1890s, Doukhobor immigrants arrived in the area and started establishing villages, but Veregin wasn't a typical Doukhobor community. It was a creation of the railroad with two rows of structures laid out along a single street. In 1904 - 05, the Canadian Northern Railway established the present townsite​ and named it Veregin to honour the Doukhobor leader, Peter Vasilevich Verigin.
