Quill Lakes International Bird Area (Wadena - Wynyard - Foam Lake)
250 sq km conservation area located N of Hwy 16 between the towns of Wynyard, Wadena and Foam Lake.
A globally important bird area and a Saskatchewan Birding Trail anchor site, the Quill Lakes International Bird Area features Canada's largest saline lake and endangered species. Highlights of the area include over one million waterfowl, shorebirds and songbirds, viewing areas with trails, and two nature centres. Please be aware the region has encountered high water levels in recent years and that some bird watching locations are not accessible.
The Quill Lakes Interpretive Centre in Wynyard features information on the area and the bird species that can be found there. The Quill Lakes Interpretive Centre is not staffed and is open to the public and groups by appointment only. Sufficient notice is required. The Foam Lake Visitor Centre & Nature Centre has tourist information, campsites, a golf driving range, heritage home, nature and walking trails and interpretive nature displays.
