Big Rock Buffalo Rubbing Stone - Swarthmore Church Site

Big Rock - take Hwy 29 S of Battleford for approximately 20 km, turn W on Grid 787 (Cloan Rd) for 17 km. Watch for signs. Swarthmore Church Site is 5.5 km W to Swarthmore Rd, 3.2 km S and 1 km W.
The Big Rock Buffalo Rubbing Stone is a huge rock used as a landmark for early settlers and North West Mounted Police (NWMP) travelling the Sounding Lake Trail between the NWMP posts of Battleford, Saskatchewan and Sounding Lake, Alberta. Also along the trail was the Swarthmore Church built in 1905 by Quakers. Explanatory plaques on site.
