Located 20 minutes northeast of Moose Jaw, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park offers a balanced blend of nature and recreational opportunities. Once used by First Nations to corral bison, the park maintains a captive herd in a paddock that's situated among the area's scenic rolling hills.  

This park offers excellent hiking, mountain biking and fat biking trails, fishing, canoeing and kayaking opportunities. A brand new heated outdoor pool opened in 2020. Enjoy migrant waterfowl viewing at Nicolle Flats Interpretive Area and Marsh Boardwalk. The park is a great destination for day-trips, offering awesome views of the Qu'Appelle Valley which are especially specacular in the fall. Along with multiple-night camping options, Buffalo Pound is the perfect choice for your next visit. For that perfect getaway with minimal effort and preparation, Buffalo Pound has two Camp-Easy sites available for booking.

Buffalo Pound Provincial Park

Register here for a Saskatchewan Parks special event to let us know that you're joining us for the fun! Admission to special events is free with valid park entry. Please note that additional costs may be associated with select activities/offerings.

Event Details: The park comes alive tonight with swimming available at the pool, haunted hikes, glow mini-golf, glow disc golf, late night food specials. Navigate the night sky or try our night geocaching course on your own time! Self-guided interpretive programs will be available throughout the day. Pre-registration for guided interpretive programs is required. Visit Eventbrite for a complete listing of programs available for pre-registration.

Come out and take part in the 10th annual Prairie Summit Run-it Trail Race. Choose from the 5-km, 10-km or 20-km distances or bring the kids (ages 3 - 12 years) for the fun run. A challenging, hilly course showcasing the many meadows, trees and great views found along the wonderful scenic trails in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. 

There are three age divisions for the three choices of distance: ages up to age 21, ages 22 - 39 years and 40 years and up. 20-km race starts at 10 a.m.; the 5-km and 10-km races start at 10:20 a.m. and the fun run starts at 12 noon.
