The Popoff Tree

20 km SE of Blaine Lake via grid road; watch for signs.

Located southeast of Blaine Lake, one of Saskatchewan's notable trees is named after Samuel J. Popoff who leased the Crown land on which the tree is located.

A plains cottonwood cross, with black or balsam poplar, the tree stands nearly 21 metres (68 feet) high at the present time; the top of the tree was sheared off by lighting. The tree has a girth of about 1.55 metres (over 5 feet) and a span reaching 32 metres (over 104 feet). Estimates place the age of the tree at over 160 years.

The Popoff Tree is one of the few remaining giant cottonwoods as most have fallen to the saw and the axe.
