The Crooked Bush
14.5 km W of Hafford on Hwy 40 (pass Speers to Flint Rd), 16 km N, then 2.5 km E. Watch for signs at Flint Rd and 16 km mark.
The Crooked Bush, located near Hafford and Speers, presents a unique natural spectacle. This area, highlighted as one of the '54 Wonders of Canada' by CBC’s 'Morningside' show, features a trail through a grove of unusually twisted aspen trees. Unlike typical aspens, these trees display branches that grow horizontally and downwards, creating a visually striking environment. The anomaly is thought to be due to a genetic mutation, the origins of which remain a mystery, adding to the site's allure with tales of supernatural influences.
Despite theories ranging from UFO landings to extraordinary soil conditions, the Crooked Bush continues to captivate visitors with its peculiar charm. Respect for this natural treasure is paramount; visitors are reminded not to disturb the trees or stray from the path.
